The first choice you’ll face is the destination. Merzouga is home to the Erg Chebbi dunes, the iconic orange sand mountains that reach up to 150 meters high. It offers the "real" Sahara experience but requires a 9-10 hour drive from Marrakech. Zagora, on the other hand, is only 6 hours away, making it perfect for a short 2-day trip. Duration Matters: Don’t Rush the Magic
We often see travelers try to visit Merzouga in just 2 days. This is a mistake! You will spend 20 hours in a car over 48 hours, leaving very little time to actually enjoy the desert. A 3-day/2-night tour is the industry standard for Merzouga, allowing for beautiful stops in the Dades Valley or Ouarzazate. If you have more time, a 4-day tour allows for a much more relaxed pace and a deeper connection with the desert landscape.
